In the Heart of the Mother City

The mosque is uniquely positioned among some of Cape Town’s most well-known landmarks. The Company’s Garden lies directly adjacent to the mosque — a peaceful, tree-lined park first planted by the early Dutch settlers in 1652 and still beloved today. A short walk away is the historic Bo-Kaap, a cobblestone neighbourhood famous for its brightly-coloured houses and one of the oldest Muslim communities in South Africa. Long Street, with its restaurants and shops, runs just a few hundred metres downhill, while the slopes of Signal Hill and Table Mountain rise behind the mosque.

This central location makes the mosque accessible to residents, visitors staying in the CBD, and tourists exploring the city’s heritage sites. Visitors from elsewhere in Cape Town and from out of town are always welcome to join us for prayer or simply to stop in and visit.

A Note for First-Time Visitors

If you have never been to a mosque before, please do not feel hesitant. The Jumu’a Mosque has welcomed visitors of every background for many decades. There is no need to make an appointment, no expectation of religious knowledge, and nothing you need to bring with you. Modest dress is appreciated, and shoes are removed before entering the prayer hall — that is the only practical consideration.

If you would like a guided visit, a quiet conversation with one of the trustees, or simply to sit in the mosque and experience its atmosphere, send us a message and we will gladly arrange it. Allah’s house is open to all who seek it.

Looking for a specific person, programme, or trustee? Email info@jumuamosquect.co.za and we will route your message to the right place.
